Translations of Iamblichus’ <i>De communi mathematica scientia 26</i> and <i>Protrepticus</i> 6–12

Abstract Most fragments of Aristotle’s Protrepticus have been preserved in Iamblichus’ work of the same name, specifically chapters 6–12. Another key fragment appears in chapter 26 of Iamblichus’ De communi mathematica scientia. This part of the book provides new translations of these sections from Iamblichus’ works. To illustrate Iamblichus’ method of referencing Aristotle, the translations include not only the fragments attributed to Aristotle’s Protrepticus but also Iamblichus’ own openings, transitions, and summaries before, between, and after the fragments. The translations are preceded by notes on adopted readings, formatting choices, and interpolations likely added by Iamblichus.
