Septic shock with multiple organ dysfunction in a neonate following Campylobacter jejuni infection: a case report and clinical insights

Neonatal septic shock is a life-threatening emergency with high mortality. Campylobacter jejuni is a rare but potentially severe pathogen in neonates. We report a 24-day-old female neonate admitted in July 2025 with fever, diarrhea, and rapid progression to septic shock with multiple organ dysfunction. Blood culture confirmed Campylobacter Jejuni infection. The infant received comprehensive treatment including respiratory support, fluid resuscitation, vasoactive drugs, and targeted antibiotics (meropenem plus azithromycin). She fully recovered and was discharged after 24 days. Early recognition, prompt intervention, and multidisciplinary management are crucial in neonatal septic shock. Campylobacter Jejuni should be considered in septic neonates with diarrhea.
