<i>Editorial Commentary</i> : Ratio of Anterior to Posterior Distances of Lateral‐to‐Medial Tibial Plateau Is Associated With Increased Anterior Cruciate Ligament Rupture Risk and Graft Failure and Can Be Considered in Individualized Surgical Plan for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) graft failure is a difficult complication after ACL reconstruction (ACLR) surgery with risk factors that include patient characteristics and surgical factors. Analyzing and incorporating these risk factors into shared surgical decision-making is an important part of preventing complications after ACLR and revision ACLR. There is a growing body of literature studying the importance of patient anatomical factors that can predispose to risks of ACL graft failure and smaller lateral-to-medial tibial plateau ratio is an anatomical factor that is correlated with a higher risk of ACL rupture and ACLR graft failure. While further study and statistical analysis will be important in allowing surgeons to incorporate this risk factor in surgical decision-making, it shows promise as something to consider in the future.
