Introduction to Oceanic gateways: modern and ancient analogues, and their conceptual and economic implications

This special issue “Oceanic Gateways: modern and ancient analogues and their conceptual and economic implications” includes some of the contributions presented at the Oceanic Gateways International Conference held at The Geological Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly (London), on 23-25 November 2022. The volume aims to bring together those works on modern and ancient gateways, developed by from oceanographers, palaeoceanographers, geomorphologists, sedimentologists and marine geologists, to geologists and researchers working on numerical modelling and plate tectonic reconstructions, and those in the broader energy sector. This multidisciplinary approach to the study of gateways will improve our knowledge, models, and predictive power. This book will include contributions for the following themes discussed during the international conference: Tectonic Controls on Gateways; Oceanographic, Palaeoceanographic and Sedimentary Processes and Deposits; Gateways in Polar Regions; Data Integration and Multidisciplinary Analysis; and Implications of Gateways and Contourite Deposits for Energy Geosciences.
