Contribution of GWB stations to seismic monitoring in Guatemala: Analysis of 2023 and 2024

We carried out a comprehensive analysis of seismic events recorded by the Raspberry Shake 3C stations installed under the “Increasing Natural Hazard Resiliency in Guatemala” project, funded by Geoscientists Without Borders (GWB), during 2023 and 2024. This study focused on quantifying detected events and evaluating the contribution of these stations to enhance the monitoring capabilities of the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology, and Hydrology (INSIVUMEH). By examining their specific contribution to the national seismic network, this research underscores the substantial role GWB stations play in increasing the efficiency of seismic detection and localization. Their presence has notably densified the overall monitoring framework, thereby enhancing real time data availability and bolstering Guatemala’s capacity for Earthquake Early Warning Systems (EEWS).
