Geochemical production allocation over time for a new field in the Norwegian North Sea

We propose to apply geochemical fingerprinting to carry our hydrocarbon allocation of commingled production in an oil field in the Norwegian North Sea. Geochemical production allocation is a well-documented approach that bears several advantages: cost-effectiveness, high accuracy, zero impact on ongoing operations and no HSE related risks. Moreover, it is well suited to complement data from other metering techniques, providing additional insights into subsurface dynamics. In the proposed scenario, three offshore wells, which produce all from the same sand reservoir, are commingled at the FPSO installation, each one of those metered by means of multiphase flowmeters. Geochemical production allocation was utilized to provide insights in the zonal contribution within the reservoir, which is characterized by gravitative segregation of the oil column. Results showed production driven by gravity and cross communication between wells. These results are extremely valuable to understand zonal contribution, to plan for water injectors and monitor their performances, as well as to evaluate potential drift towards contribution from the gas cap, which is to be avoided.
