A Qualitative Exploration of Students’ Perceptions Based on Resilience in Mathematics Learning

This study aims to explore students’ perceptions of mathematics learning based on their resilience levels using a qualitative case study approach and was conducted in class VIII of MTsN 1 North Lampung. The research subjects were four students selected using a purposive sampling technique, consisting of two students with high resilience and two students with low resilience. Data collection was carried out through observation, perception questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews. Data analysis was carried out using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was maintained through method triangulation and source triangulation. The findings indicate that resilience functions as a key factor shaping students’ perceptions of mathematics learning. Students with high resilience demonstrate adaptive emotional regulation, confidence, and persistence, which support positive learning engagement, whereas students with low resilience tend to experience anxiety, low confidence, and avoidance behaviors that hinder learning.
