Efficient Dyes Degradation by Novel H ₂ O ₂ ‐Assisted Lanthanum Doped Bismuth Ferrite@Nb ₂ CT <i>x</i> MXene Hybrid for Water Purification

ABSTRACT MXenes have demonstrated significant potential as photocatalysts for dye removal, owing to their large surface area and superior electrical conductivity. In this study, a photocatalyst comprising Nb 2 CT x and lanthanum‐doped bismuth ferrite nanoparticles (BLFO) was synthesized by the solvothermal method. A photocatalyst was employed to investigate its photocatalytic performance for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO) dyes. The respective degradation of 62% and 73% was achieved using the BLFO@Nb 2 CT x in 180 and 150 min. To make the process more efficient, both photocatalyst and hydrogen peroxide H 2 O 2 were added to dye solutions, which resulted in 96% and 99% degradation of MB and MO, respectively, in 60 min. The enhanced degradation efficiencies are attributed to the synergistic effect of photocatalysis and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated by H 2 O 2 . The above results reveal that in the presence of light, H 2 O 2 activation significantly accelerates the rate of degradation of dyes, making the catalytic process highly efficient.
