Impact of Derealisation and Emotional Isolation on Memory blank under stress among adults

Abstract The present study examined the association between derealization, emotional isolation and memory blank outs in non-clinical population, with perceived high level of stress which was considered as the inclusion criteria for the study. A sample of 102 participants were assessed using Cambridge Depersonalisation Scale (CDS), UCLA Loneliness Scale (Version – 3), Cognitive Failure Questionnaire (CFQ) and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). The statistical analyses revealed significant positive correlations between derealisation, emotional isolation, and memory blank outs. Regression analysis further indicated both derealisation and emotional isolation significantly predicted memory blank outs. These findings support all the four hypotheses, suggesting that dissosiative experiences and emotional disconnection independently and collectively contribute to memory lapses under stress.
