The Role of Educational Credentials and Skills in the Hiring Process: Technical Report and Data Documentation

This technical report describes the sampling criteria and data collection of the qualitative interviews and factorial survey included in a mixed-methods research project titled The Role of Educational Credentials and Skills in the Hiring Process. This project aims to understand how hiring agents evaluate educational credentials in the hiring process, what role credentials play vis-à-vis other criteria, and how this evaluation is influenced by characteristics of the firm, job, hiring agent, and occupation. It is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and includes 35 semi-structured interviews and a factorial survey experiment with 2351 hiring agents across 72 occupational fields in Switzerland.
