CULTURAL IDENTITY, ETHICS, AND NATIONAL CONSCIOUSNESS IN GHOSH'S THE GLASS PALACE

Cultural Identity, Ethics, and National Consciousness in Amitav Ghosh's The Glass Palace. This study is an endeavour to understand the theme of cultural identity, a central theme explored by one of India's most celebrated contemporary writers, Amitav Ghosh. His narratives are noted for their deep exploration of cultural dislocation, historical memory, migration and hybridity. This article examines three of his representative texts, namely The Shadow Lines, The Glass Palace, and The Hungry Tide, in Ghosh's oeuvre, with a view to finding out how he depicts the struggle for cultural belonging through reading locale both as a site of transformation and a locus of cultural identity in the postcolonial landscape. The study adopts an interdisciplinary approach that combines postcolonial theory, cultural studies, and literary analysis to underline Ghosh's unique narrative.
