Evans syndrome in pregnancy: A case report and review of management challenges

Evans syndrome (ES) during pregnancy is uncommon and is characterized by autoimmune cytopenia, most commonly autoimmune hemolytic anemia and immune thrombocytopenia. When present in pregnancy, it may lead to maternal and fetal thrombocytopenia and in rare cases, intracranial haemorrhage, resulting in neurological disorders complications, with a frequency of 1–3% of affected cases. We describe a 22-year-old woman in her first trimester pregnancy with ES, which is managed at Mysore Medical College and Research Institute, Mysuru, and we present an obstetric course through this report. This report outlines her antenatal course and obstetric outcome, highlighting the importance of timely diagnosis, close surveillance, and coordinated multidisciplinary care in achieving favorable maternal and neonatal outcomes.
