On forward convex preserving maps between graphs

We study several classes of vertex maps between connected graphs, including homomorphisms, metric maps, continuous maps, and maps that forward preserve convex sets. In particular, our results yield new characterizations of block graphs and interval monotone graphs based on the inclusions between these classes of maps.
