Diezmo En El Judaísmo Del Segundo Templo: Materialidad Y Centralización Fiscal This study examines the role of the tithe during the Second Temple period, with particular attention to its relationship to temple storage facilities (lišḵôt) and administrative practices in Yehud. Moving beyond a strictly legal analysis of biblical texts, the paper considers the material and institutional dimensions of resource collection, storage, and redistribution. Drawing on texts such as Nehemiah and Malachi, the study explores how tithing practices were linked to efforts at cultic centralization and administrative organization under Persian rule. It also considers subsequent developments in the Hellenistic period, including changing fiscal structures and the role of elite families, such as the Tobiads, in mediating economic and political power. The paper argues that the tithe functioned as part of a broader system of resource management that supported temple institutions and shaped social relations in Judea. It concludes that shifts in imperial administration and regional economic structures contributed to changes in the interpretation and practice of tithing in the late Second Temple period.
