Registered Reports in Animal Biology: A New Format

Abstract This editorial serves to announce a new publication format in Animal Biology : Registered Reports. In this innovative format, peer review occurs before , rather than after , results are known. It is designed to reward quality of the study, which is under the control of researchers, rather than study outcomes, which are not (or at least, should not be). By reducing incentives to obtain statistically significant results, Registered Reports help to counteract publication bias, ensuring published research is more representative of all studies being conducted. Animal Biology welcomes Registered Report submissions to support its aim to publish high-quality studies that integrate various disciplines within the broad field of zoology.
