A Unipolar–Bipolar Composite Coils–Based Inductive Power Transfer System With Misalignment‐Tolerant and Inherent CC–CV Charging Profile

ABSTRACT Within the field of wireless power transfer, developing a WPT system that combines constant current (CC) to constant voltage (CV) charging characteristics with coil misalignment tolerance capability presents a significant challenge. Unipolar–bipolar composite coils can provide constant coupled magnetic flux under coil misalignment, offering a degree of misalignment tolerance. However, without regulation at the secondary cascaded converter level, WPT systems can only deliver either CC or CV output, failing to meet the CC–CV switching requirement for lithium battery charging. This paper proposes a method to achieve CC–CV switching with misalignment tolerance without adding a cascaded converter. During the final stage of CC charging, leveraging the characteristic of diodes being cut off in a half‐bridge rectifier, the secondary CLC topology switches to an S topology for CV charging. This approach eliminates the need for additional control and detection mechanisms, enhancing system reliability. Experimental results demonstrate that when the load varies between 10 and 80 , the proposed WPT system maintains stable CC and CV outputs alongside automatic CC–CV switching capability within a 50% misalignment range. Furthermore, output fluctuations remain confined to within 10% throughout.
