Research status of surface texture suppressing friction induced vibration and noise

With mechanical systems advancing towards higher speeds, heavier loads and greater precision, the nonlinear friction induced vibration and noise (FIVN) generated at the frictional pair interface has become a critical factor limiting equipment performance. As the energy carrier for the generation and transmission of friction vibration and noise, the performance of the frictional pair interface directly affects the overall stability of the mechanical system. This paper systematically reviews the generation mechanisms of friction vibration and noise, and their correlation with tribological performance and interfacial characteristics. Regarding suppression strategies, it focuses on analyzing the influence of surface texturing regulation on friction, vibration, and noise, along with the underlying mechanisms of these suppression strategies. Concurrently, it categorizes and introduces current mainstream surface texturing fabrication techniques. Finally, based on a summary of existing research on FIVN mechanisms and texturing based suppression, potential future research directions for the study of friction induced vibration and noise mechanisms and the application of surface texturing in FIVN suppression are proposed, aiming to provide insights and a theoretical foundation for research on friction vibration and noise control.
