THE WHIPPLE PRESSURE WAVE RESONATOR: Application of the Universal Pressure Wave Principle to Post-Tectonic Alluvial Fan Self-Organization in the Whipple Mountains, California

This research identifies the Whipple Mountains as a macro-scale resonator. By analyzing 1,475 global sediment systems and targeted USGS lidar data, we demonstrate that alluvial fan spacing and topographic waves follow the 4.95 Constant (R subscript J). This proves that geological self-organization is a resonant wave phenomenon identical to particle acceleration and capital flow. This paper applies the Universal Pressure Wave Principle (Jensen 2026, DOI10.5281/zenodo.19275208) to the Quaternary alluvial fan systems on the southern flank of theWhipple Mountains, California, demonstrating that these fans operate as geomorphologicalresonators whose mathematics is identical to the broader Universal Resonator Principle(Jensen 2026, DOI 10.5281/zenodo.19302165). The tectonic confinement provided by theWhipple detachment fault and range-front geometry supplies the cavity width W. Episodic debrisflows (generalized Fr ≈ 0.4–2.0) supply the gain medium. Topography supplies distributedfeedback. The system self-selects the resonant wavelength λ = 2πW / tan(arcsin(Fr)), producingthe observed 5–7× lobe and distributary-channel segmentation (median λ/W = 6.2×, matchingthe global alluvial-fan median of 6.2× from 102 fans, Jensen 2026 Table 9.1).All five universal signatures are confirmed: (1) wavelength quantization at 5–7× fan-apex width;(2) threshold behavior at Fr ≈ 0.4; (3) mode competition resolved within 1–10 flow events; (4)coherence build-up in hours to days after reset; (5) standing-wave pressure modulation with 80–120% enhancement in topographic lows (matching river pools at 106%, submarine scours at120%, and turbidity-current cyclic-step pools at 112%, all from Jensen 2026, DOI10.5281/zenodo.19275208, Table 9.3). These signatures are not coincidences confined togeomorphology. The identical resonator mathematics appear in the Genomic Resonator.
