Humanoid Robots in the Home: Why Current Safety Standards Are Structurally Unfit for Domestic Deployment

• The deployment of humanoid robots in residential sectors is accelerating beyond the scope of existing governance sequences. A fundamental shift is underway as several leading companies transition their primary focus from traditional industrial applications to domestic environments.• Existing robot safety standards rest on three structural assumptions — separation of humans and machines, trained-user operation, and controlled environments — that are all violated by domestic deployment conditions.• Three governance gaps — autonomous judgment reliability, liability attribution, and user participation in safety certification — are not yet sufficiently codified within current regulatory frameworks.• The window for anticipatory governance is narrowing. Once deployment at scale establishes design precedents and market expectations, retrospective reform becomes structurally constrained.
