Triaxial Plotting Methods for Casing and Tubing Design: Myth Vs. Reality

Abstract It is widely assumed that there is a standardized method for plotting load points on a triaxial plot during the casing and tubing design phase of well integrity. In reality, several approaches are available, each with its own strengths and limitations. No single method offers a perfect solution for all scenarios. This paper explores four common approaches, aims to dispel prevalent misconceptions and offer guidance regarding the selection of the most suitable plotting technique to ensure well integrity. Comparative analysis of the four approaches demonstrates that the choice of plotting methodology can lead to different interpretations of design factor compliance and operational safety margins. Example load cases are analyzed to highlight visualization differences and practical implications. By providing a comprehensive comparison and practical guidance, this paper aims to enhance well integrity evaluations and improve design decisions in the energy industry.
