A synergistic application of supercritical CO2 in geothermal energy and heavy oil recovery

This paper examines Supercritical Hot CO2 Injection as an alternative enhanced oil recovery (EOR) method that addresses three critical global energy challenges: reducing CO2 emissions, minimizing water consumption for steam generation, and sustaining hydrocarbon production. By utilizing geothermal energy to preheat CO2 before compression as an EOR agent, this approach enhances oil recovery efficiency while reducing environmental impact. This study explores the theoretical foundations, advantages, challenges, and a proposed workflow for optimizing the injection process.
