If the United States Suddenly Withdraws: Systemic Shock, Proxy Amplification, and Strategic Realignment in the Middle East Conflict

This policy analysis examines the systemic implications of a sudden U.S. withdrawal from the Middle East conflict, reframing withdrawal not as a termination of hostilities but as a structural trigger of transformation. Building on the Shock–Amplification–Realignment (SAR) framework, the study conceptualizes conflict escalation as a multi-stage process in which systemic shock, proxy-driven amplification, and strategic realignment unfold under conditions of reduced escalation control. To operationalize these dynamics, the analysis integrates the Middle East Conflict Cost Monitor (MCCM), modeling conflict as a cost-distribution system across direct war costs, global shock effects, and combined systemic exposure. The study further incorporates the Loss-of-Control Threshold (LoCT) as a boundary condition, identifying tipping points at which cost diffusion, signaling fragmentation, and decentralized actor proliferation produce nonlinear escalation. The findings suggest that sudden withdrawal does not reduce systemic risk but redistributes and amplifies it, transforming the conflict into a more distributed, volatile, and less controllable system with cross-theater and domestic political feedback effects.
