[Interpretation of the European Federation of Periodontology consensus on contemporary and emerging technologies for periodontal diagnosis].

The consensus on contemporary and emerging technologies for periodontal diagnosis, developed by the European Federation of Periodontology, was published in August 2025. This consensus comprehensively examined the implementation of the 2018 classification in periodontal diagnosis, the diagnostic performance of clinical and radiological assessments, the current evidence on biomarkers for periodontal diagnosis and prognosis, and the potential and limitations of emerging technologies, including but not limited to artificial intelligence, when applied to periodontal screening, diagnosis, and risk assessment in both clinical and non-clinical settings. This article aims to summarize and interpret the key findings of the consensus report, focusing on the quality of evidence, applicable scenarios, and future research directions for various diagnostic methodologies. The objective is to provide domestic periodontal clinicians with an evidence-based reference to better understanding the implications of the consensus, and optimizing clinical management strategies.
