A Kinetic-Theory-Based Nonlinear Extension of the Bernoulli Relation

The Bernoulli relation is a cornerstone of classical fluid mechanics, typically derived under assumptions of inviscid, steady, and incompressible flow. In standard treatments, pressure is interpreted as an isotropic scalar quantity independent of bulk flow velocity. In this work, we revisit the Bernoulli relation from a kinetic-theory perspective and propose a nonlinear extension arising from flow-induced anisotropy in the velocity distribution of particles. By introducing a simple anisotropic distribution function in which transverse velocity fluctuations decrease with increasing flow speed, we derive a modified Bernoulli relation containing an additional nonlinear velocity-dependent term. This formulation provides a mechanistic interpretation of pressure variation as a consequence of momentum redistribution and suggests possible extensions to regimes involving high-speed flow and instability.
