A Qualitative Study Exploring the Characteristics of a Culture of Caring Ideal for Recruitment, Development, and Retention of Nursing Faculty

Amid the existing nurse faculty shortage, efforts to recruit, develop, and retain faculty through a holistic lens are worthy of exploration. However, holistic programming for caring science-based recruitment, development, and retention of faculty, where the whole person is considered, is not evident in the literature. This phenomenological study gleaned the perspectives of faculty in an urban bachelor's degree nursing program in Nevada to unveil defining characteristics of a culture of caring that would foster a sense of belonging. The goal is to leverage the findings to develop a tailored holistic recruitment, development, and retention program.
